WORCESTER-Andrew T. Minka, 82, of Worcester died Wednesday, December 28th in St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Mercine (Perros) Minka; two sons, Theodore A. Minka and his wife, Diana of Worcester and Charles M. Minka and his wife, Dianne of Hopkinton; a sister, Virginia Theodosis of Worcester; four grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas, Hailey and Logan and a great grandson, Lucas. A sister, Carol Dell Aquila predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Theodore and Thomaidha (Thomo) Minka. Andrew graduated from the Former High School of Commerce and Quincy Jr. College. He worked for Table Talk Pie Company and retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts National Guard in 1986. Mr. Minka was an active drill reservist for 36 years with the Massachusetts Army National Guard achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of St. Mary Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, the Sons of St. Mary’s and AHEPA at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Andrew also belonged to the state employee association, was past president of Central Mass Conference of Football Officials and a member of its board for 30 years.
The funeral is Tuesday, January 3rd from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 11:00 AM in St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Church, 535 Salisbury St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, January 2nd from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. The Trisagion service will take place at 6:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
