Joseph R. Marquis, 86, of Derry, NH, died Sunday December 25, 2011 in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born in Lawrence, MA on October 10, 1925, a son of the late Arthur and Marie (Lanouette) Marquis. He had been a resident of Derry for the past 26 years, formerly living in Salem, NH. Mr. Marquis was a WWII Navy veteran. He had been employed as a dock loader for the Brockway Smith Co. Mr. Marquis enjoyed camping when he was younger, and he loved to spend time with his family.
He is survived by five sons, Daniel J. Marquis and his wife Cathy of Derry, Arthur J. Marquis and his wife Donna of Salem, Edward P. Marquis and his wife Debora of Danville, NH, Richard A. Marquis of Miami, FL, Gerald J. Marquis and his wife Sheila of Atkinson, NH; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his sister, Claire Duquette of Hampstead, NH. He was predeceased by his wife, MaryRose R. Marquis who died in 2007.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, December 28th from 4 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at 9:30am in St. Matthews Church, 2 Searles Rd., Windham, NH. The burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Road, E. Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Assoc., PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
