John Henry Schofill, Sr., 74, of Tifton died Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Edwin Dillard and Rev. Rowan Sirmans will officiate with burial to follow at Metts Cemetery in Alapaha. Robert “Bucky” Gartman, Greg Bell, Jamie Hancock, Danny McClaren, Steven “Stevo” Manaugh and Jason Coarsey will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Schofill was born on January 12, 1937 in Nashville and was the son of Leonidus Schofill and Little Lucy Minnie Sutton Schofill, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Vera Mae Flancher Schofill, who died on September 12, 2011; and one son, John Henry Schofill, Jr. He was a member of Believers Baptist Church in Tifton and a member of Gideons International. He has been a resident of Tift County since October 1969 and has been owner/operator of Schofill’s Appliance Company in Tifton since that time. Every Tuesday night, he got together with Archie White and the “Old Friends” to pick and sing. Together they would perform at elderly homes in Tifton. His favorite pastime was fishing with Archie and playing music with the “Old Friends”. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, loving father, a devout Christian, avid fisherman and picker and grinner.
Mr. Schofill is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Christopher Todd Schofill and Edsel Lee and Kelli Schofill, all of Tifton; three daughters, Kimberly Ann Whitten and Alex Herrera, Valerie Lynn Schofill and Madison Schofill Heath, all of Tifton; eight grandchildren, Nanci Leigh Smith and husband, Chris, Stevi Lynn Sweetnam, Shanna Moran Whitten, Amy Lynn Johnson, Christopher John “C. J.” Schofill, Alana Renea Schofill, Hunter Todd Schofill and Hayley Rene’ Schofill; and one great-grandchild, Brenden Michael Sweetnam.
