BEVERLY: Gemma M. (Saravo) Mills, 92, died peacefully on Christmas morning in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following an extended illness.
Born in Beverly on August 31, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Ardunio and Maria Rose (Colardo) Saravo. A lifelong resident of Beverly, she attended Beverly public schools and was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1940.
An avid reader, she enjoyed many hours at the Beverly Public Library. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen D. Mills; a son, Stephen A. Mills; a grandson, Anthony S. Mills; a niece, Maureen Troubetaris and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Mary Day and Elizabeth Gouzie, two brothers, Anthony Saravo and Frank Saravo, a nephew, John Day, a niece, Mary Taeger and a great-niece, Patricia Tadiello.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
