Elizabeth "Betty" Beadle died at home in Mattapoisett, MA on December, 22, 2011. Born Mary Elizabeth MacAllister on December, 2, 1915 in Hopkinton, Iowa, Betty was extremely proud of her Midwestern, and particularly of her Iowan roots.
She graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1937 and moved to the Chicago area to pursue a career in insurance underwriting. She married Theodore "Ted" Beadle in 1946 and they chose the Chicago suburb of Wilmette as home and it was home for over 40 years. Betty's interests were many and in addition to her successful business career-she was named a vice-president of her company, the Warner Insurance Group-she loved (and excelled at) playing Bridge, and participated in organizations such as the League of Women Voters, PEO, and the Wilmette Women's Club.
After Ted's death in 1991, she continued her active life and made numerous trips to visit her daughter Anne, son-in-law Jim, and grandchildren Callie and Erik in New Hampshire. In 1995 she sold her Wilmette home and moved to Mattapoisett, MA, with Anne's family (which now included a 3rd grandchild, Kyle). Together they built a home complete with an in-law apartment so that she could be close to family activities and yet maintain her independence. Never one to sit at home, she soon immersed herself in her new community, becoming involved with the Congregational Church, local PEO chapter and finding enthusiastic, if not always quite as skillful, Bridge players. She enjoyed many close friendships, often with people considerably younger, commenting "If I had stayed in Wilmette all of my friends would be gone by now". Most of all she loved her family and was able to get to know her first great-grandchildren, Cam and Jimmy, born in February 2009.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne Hedblom; son-in-law, Daniel Moniz; granddaughter, Callan Auger, her husband, Corey Auger, and their sons, James and Cameron; grandson, Erik Hedblom and his wife, Tess Hiller Hedblom; and grandson, Kyle Hedblom, all of Mattapoisett. She is also survived by her beloved nephew, John Reeder and his wife Charlotte Reeder of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; her sister-in-law, Bonnie MacAllister of St. Simons Island, Georgia; and cousins in the US and Ireland.
Her visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 5th from 4-6 PM followed by her Memorial Service at 6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett.
