Woonsocket, RI—Daniel P. McCarthy 90, of Woonsocket, and a former longtime resident of Franklin, died peacefully, Friday December 23rd, 2011 at the Oakland Grove Health Center following an illness. He was the husband of the late Frances L. “Fanny” (Lombardi) McCarthy who died in 1983.
Born September 29, 1921, in Franklin, a son of the late Frank L. & Olive (Boulanger) McCarthy, he was raised and educated in Franklin, where he lived for most of his life before moving to Blackstone and Woonsocket.
He served honorably in the United States Army during World War ll, and upon returning to the Franklin area he took a job as a truck driver for Ober’s trucking.
He could always be heard singing, liked watching western movies, loved to cook and followed the Red Sox and Patriots.
Mr. McCarthy is survived by a son, Peter D. McCarthy of Cape Cod, two daughters, Jean M. Scott and her companion Delmore Tyks of Blackstone, and Patricia A. Nutt of North Adams, & sister Beverly A. Carroll of Franklin.
Also surviving are his grandchildren; Michael McCarthy, Michelle L. Butman and her husband Brian of Woonsocket, Pamela Barber of Florida, & his great grandsons, Cameron & Ryan Barber.
He was the brother of the late Frank L. McCarthy & John McCarthy.
His funeral, with visitation beginning at 8:30AM will be Wednesday December 28th, from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, www.oterifuneralhome.com., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Franklin at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
