Obituary

Jackie Gordon Holley, 63, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Sunday, December 25, 2011, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 28 at the Ocilla Church of God with the Rev. Clayton Dowd and the Rev. Jimmy Fant officiating. A poem will be read by his sister, Jewitte Kelley. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Holley was born March 27, 1948 in Fulton, Mississippi to Earline Robbins Holley and the late Gordon E. Holley. He moved to Fitzgerald at the age of sixteen. He was U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the 101st Airborn Division and received the Army Conendation Medal & Bronze star Medal for service in The Republic of Vietnam. Mr. Holley received his Diesel & Auto Mechanic and Welding training from Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College. He was former owner/operator of J & R Sales and a former employee of Fitzgerald Water, Light & Bond Commission with twenty-eight years of service. Mr. Holley was a member of the Elks Club, a Mason and former Chaplain, a Shriner, a member of the Ben Hillbilly Clan # 62 and a member and former commander of the American Legion Post 99. He was a member of the Ocilla Church of God where he worked with the children’s church.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Rowell Holley of Fitzgerald; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard & Nicki Holley of Fitzgerald and Jackie G. & Karen Holley, II of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Caitlin, Brennen, Jordan, Dawson, Caroline and Jackson Duane Holley; mother, Earline R. Holley of Fitzgerald; brothers and sisters, Bobby (Darlene) Holley of Kathleen, Jewitte (Mike) Kelley of Fitzgerald, Hazel (David) Livingston of Lexington, SC, Joyce (Joe) Leech of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Martha (Jeff) Stanich of Kenosha, WI and Dennis (Nikki) Duhig of Elk Grove, CA as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon E. Holley, two brothers and two sisters, Jessie & Cheryl Holley, Meryl Holley, Charlene Jackson and Judy Boyd.
