Obituary

EAST BRIDGEWATER - John A. Black Jr., 74, of East Bridgewater died Wednesday at home. He was the husband of Barbara (Vaughn) Black.

Born Sept. 23, 1929 in Middleboro, he was a son of the late John A. Sr. and Laura (Jones) Black.

He grew up in Middleboro and attended Middleboro schools and had been an East Bridgewater resident for 20 years.

Mr. Black was a maintenance surpervisor at the Foxboro Co. in East Bridgewater for 13 years.

He was in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Black was a member of the Middleboro Elks and enjoyed gardening.

He was also an avid NASCAR fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James Black of Florida; three daughters, Karen Fontanez of S.C., Kristine (Surdam) Smith of Townsend and Sandi (Surdam) Kabage of Georgia; a sister, Margaret Lake of Lakeville; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was father to the late Carol Black and the brother of the late Merton, Freeman and Leonard Black, Irene Benton, Hazel Bump, Thelma Goodwin, Mary Franklin and Laura Wolfe.

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Wales-Prophett Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater. Burial is private.
