Charlotte A. (Shahood) Bonner of Wakefield passed away on December 21, 2011.
More than any resume or list of accomplishments could ever express, Charlotte Bonner was the epitome of a truly remarkable human being. She will always be remembered for her tireless care-giving to her children, grandchildren, immediate family, friends, colleagues and students.
Despite her multiple roles and commitments, she raised her own family of three boys and also managed to earn her master's degree, fulfilling her lifelong passion for math and teaching. She was as devoted a teacher as she was a mother, and there was nothing she ever did that wasn't done with her full dedication, compassion and love.
Charlotte received her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Boston University. After graduation, she worked in the actuarial field teaching computer programming to top executives. She went on to earn a master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She taught math and statistics for more than 15 years at the Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, and the Harvard Kennedy School. In 1998, she received the Petra T. Shattuck Excellence in Teaching Award.
Charlotte was diagnosed in late 2009 with clear cell carcinoma, a rare type of ovarian cancer, and fought with all her strength until the end.
The culmination of her life's work, from her legacy of teaching and compassion to her two grandchildren, is one that will continue to grow as the people she touched so deeply remember her and all that she gave.
Charlotte was a resident of Wakefield since 1955. She was the dear and devoted wife of Emmet Bonner. Loving mother of Michael Bonner of Cambridge, Stephen Bonner of Wakefield, and Jeffrey Bonner and his wife Eileen of Beverly. Charlotte was the cherished grandmother "Tha-Thi" of Finn and Nora. Dear sister of Gloria George of Quincy and her late husband Ted, David Shahood and his wife Jacqueline of Acton, Janet Shahood of Wakefield and the late Robbie Shahood. She was the dear sister-in-law of Joseph Bonner and his wife Ann.
Charlotte's Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church 55 Emmonsdale Road, West Roxbury. Contributions in Charlotte's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
