Mr. Salvatore Gentile, 84, of Revere formerly of Somerville and Prezza Italy died Tuesday in the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford, surrounded by his loving family. He is the husband of Elena Gentile with whom he shared more than 58 years of marriage. Born in Prezza Italy, son of the late Giuseppe and Bambina Giannangelo he was educated there and emigrated to the United States in 1948 settling in Somerville. He studied English and computer operations in the evening. Upon certification, he worked for Shawmut Bank, Northern Terminals and IBM. Later for Filene’s Department Stores in various administrative roles. His love and knowledge of opera was well known. He was considered a helpful man in many ways. He was bilingual and often helped his fellow countrymen in translation of documents and conversations from Italian to English. He has been a resident of Revere since 1973. In addition to his wife, he is the father of Joseph Gentile and his wife Ivana of Carlisle. Loving and proud grandfather of 1st Lt. Matthew J. Gentile U.S.M.C. and Daniel M. Gentile both of Carlisle. He also leaves a host of dear friends and extended family members. His funeral will be held on Friday from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main Street MEDFORD at 9:30 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street Malden at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
