Dorothy Brown, aged 98, died on December 19, 2011. She was born November 27, 1913 in Worcester, Massachusetts to the late Mary and Edward Simpson and spent her formative years in Worcester. She and her husband, the late Earl T. Brown, raised their family in Southbridge. She was known to her five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as Deedee.
Dorothy was a graduate of Worcester State Teachers College and before her marriage, she taught in Paxton. During her years in Southbridge she was a faithful member of Central Baptist church where she worked on church fairs and did flower arrangements for the Sunday services. She also did substitute teaching in Southbridge. Upon Earl’s retirement from the American Optical Company the couple moved to Osterville Massachusetts where they lived for thirty-eight years. Dorothy and her husband were members of the West Parish Congregational Church of Barnstable where they hosted an active group known as the Grandmas and the Grandpas whose members crafted interesting and decorative items for the annual church fairs. Dorothy’s later years were spent close to her daughter, Nancy, at Allerton House in Hingham, MA and Newfields House in Plymouth. Dorothy lived a full and active life centered around church and family.
Her daughters are Nancy Ward of Marshfield and Judith Ward of Durham, NH. Her grandchildren are: Kerre and her husband William McDonough, Suzanne and Jared Schutz, Kate and Christopher Carr, Anne and Kevin Masterson, Jeremy Ward and his wife Jennifer Chu.
Private services will be held for family.
