Mary R. (McCarthy) Ford, died suddenly March 15, 2004 at her home in Newton Centre. Born in Boston, she graduated with honors from Winthrop High School and from BU with a degree in Educational Administration. She was hired by Winthrop High School as the assistant to the principal, a position she enjoyed for several years. She was a member of the auxiliary of the Guild of Saint Apollonia for over 30 years, a volunteer at a local food pantry, a tutor to inner-city children, and a member of the Board of the Bay Shores Homeowners Assoc in North Falmouth where she had a summer home for many years. She loved family, horticulture and sailing. She had been a resident of Newton for over 50 years where she was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and had taught religious education for several decades.Mary was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Thomas J. Ford and is the mother of Dr. Thomas J. Ford Jr. of Newton Lower Falls, John J. Ford of Bourne, the late Dennis P. Ford, Michael E. Ford of West Falmouth and Marita Treseler of Chestnut Hill. Mary was the loving and magnanimous grandmother of 6 and aunt of many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends will gather at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Fri March 19, 2004 at 9 AM and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church Newton Centre at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Thurs from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.Donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Retirement Fund for the Sisters of St. Joseph 637 Cambridge St. Brighton, MA 02132.
