Obituary

William F. Stone “Stoney”, age 80, of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully at his home December 15, 2011. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. “Dolly” (Harrington) Stone for over 50 years. Born, raised and educated in Boston, he was the son of the late Anthony T. and Marion (Phillips) Stone. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in WWII and Korea. While serving he received two purple hearts and 4 Bronze Stars, he was a True American Hero. For many years he was the owner of William Stone & Sons Roofing Company. He enjoyed fishing, dancing and boxing and spending time with his grandchildren. For many years he was a baseball and football coach and co-founded the Ashfield Jets Football League in Brockton. Stoney was also a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 1046.

Stoney was the father of Richard T. Stone of West Bridgewater, Rhonda T. McElhinney and her husband Brian of Bridgewater, Randy A. Stone and his wife Rachel of Brockton and the late Robin “Co-Co” Scannell and Bob and Ronald “Ziggy” Stone. He was the grandfather of Ryan P. and Arielle A. McElhinney, Laurel M. Scannell, Kaylee Ferreira and Anthony Stone. He also leaves two sisters Wilma Uno of Bridgewater and Lucille Richards of Alabama.
