George J. Hazlin, age 99, of 167 Patton Court, Groton died December 14, 2011 at his home two weeks after suffering a stroke.
He was born in New London May 15, 1912. George married Mildred Katherine Burke in 1940. Mildred died 18 years ago on February 26, 1993. During World War II George worked as an electrician at Electric Boat and later owned and operated the IGA store in Mystic during the 1950s before returning to Electric Boat where he retired in 1977.
He is survived by his son Edward J. of El Cajon, CA; his son James B. and wife Valerie of Gales Ferry; his daughter Margie D. and husband James E. Finley of Groton Long Point; granddaughter Kimberly Hazlin and husband Andres Jaramillo of Maputo, Mozambique; grandson Benjamin Hazlin of Ellington, and grandson James Finley of Boston. He is also survived by one great grandson, Santiago Jaramillo.
There are no visiting hours and services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to Hospice of Southeast CT at 227 Dunham Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
The family thanks Marcelin Alvarez for her caring support to George during the past year and thanks CCCI for the outstanding help they provided. Finally, the family recognizes three special people – Phyllis and Fred Meyer, owners of 167 Patton Court, and Phyllis’ late mother Ann Patton. Their amazing generosity allowed George to live independently in his own home for nearly 30 years.
