Phillip B.”Phil” Glidden age 68, of Brockton died Friday December 9, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Brighton after a period of failing health. He was born in Boston and raised in Needham and Escanaba,Michigan a son of the late Robert and Josephine (Starkweather) Glidden. For the past 25 years Phil had resided in Brockton. Following graduation from Northern Michigan University he enlisted in the US Army and served two tours in Vietnam as a member of the 328th Radio Research Company.
Phil retired as director of sales for the Holiday Inn in Dedham after 25 years with the company.
His love of golf was only exceeded by his love for his son and grandson. He belonged to DW Field Golf Course and was a member of the “Eagles” team. He was a member of the DAV and loved reading and solving puzzles with his grandson.
He is survived by his son Gregory; his grandson, the love of his life, Gregory, Jr. and his former wife and best friend Tina Glidden. He was the brother of Robert Glidden, Jr. and his wife Leslie of Maine, Donna Jo Glidden of Mass. and the late Judy Jaeger. He also leaves many nieces,nephews and cousins and Joana Cabral, the mother of his grandson. Phil’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in the SICU at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center for their compassionate care during his illness.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday December 15, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Brockton VA Medical Center Chapel, 940 Belmont Street, Brockton. Donations in Phil’s name may be made to a trust fund for the benefit of his grandson Gregory Glidden, Jr. at the Rockland Trust Bank, 100 Belmont Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
