Obituary

Roland J. Cormier, 83, of Knoll Crest Drive, Cumberland, died Wednesday at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He was the loving husband of Fernande Y. (Parent) Cormier. They were married on June 10, 1950.
Born and raised in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late George and Rose (Gileau) Cormier. He lived in Albion for several years and resided in Cumberland for over 45 years.
Mr. Cormier was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy, Class of 1945. He also attended Massachusetts State College (now UMass) at Amherst.
Mr. Cormier was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1945-1947.
He was employed by Crosby Valve & Gauge Company in Wrentham for over 32 years before retiring in 1986.
Roland was an avid fan as well as an adept player of tennis, golf and bridge. He also enjoyed fishing and collecting coins and paper money. In his retirement years he volunteered with the AARP in preparing tax returns for senior citizens.
Roland will be most remembered as being a devoted husband and father and cherished time spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by a son George R. Cormier, and his wife Joyce, of Morrisville, Vermont, and three grandchildren, Jacqueline Creran, and her husband Brian, Roland G. Cormier, and his fiancé Kristen Murphy, and Juliette Cormier.
His funeral will be Saturday at 8:30 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Ambrose Church, School St., Albion. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm.
