Marion J. “Mal” (O’Malley) Comita, – of Winchester, died at home, Wed., Dec. 7, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
The daughter of the late John and Annie O’Malley of Reading, Mal was a proud graduate of Our Lady of Nazareth Academy and worked in the insurance business before her marriage.
A resident of Winchester for the last 55 years, Mal was very active in Immaculate Conception Parish, serving as a CCD teacher, working on the parish minstrel shows and activities, and was a long-time member of the Ladies Sodality and bowling league.
Mal and her beloved husband Johnny had many friends and relatives, and hosted numerous social events and parties at their home.
Mal was very fond of travel, visiting relatives in Ireland and England on several occasions, and touring Europe and Hawaii. She had a special talent for knitting and made numerous gifts of sweaters, hats and other items for her many friends and grandchildren.
Mal is survived by her husband of 57 years, John R. Comita, Sr. and 5 children: Ann Allen and her husband Tom of Manchester, NH, Kathleen Hutchins and her husband Mike of Chula Vista, CA, Karen Morgan and her companion Jon Aldrich of Reading, Patrice Harris and her husband Fred of Arlington, MA, John R. Comita Jr. and his wife Copper of Ft. Worth, TX, and her former son-in-law Jim Morgan of Marshfield, MA.
Mal was the devoted Nana of 15 grandchildren: Meghan Wilson and her husband Brandon, Brian and Brendan Allen, Michael Hutchins and his wife, Billie Sue, Shawna Williams and her husband, Steven and Erin Hutchins, Caroline, Annie and Kathleen Morgan, Jimmy, John, Eileen and Patrick Harris, Reynolds and Reid Comita, and great-grandchildren Brittnie Hutchins and Kaylyn Wilson.
She was the sister of John Joseph O’Malley of Fredericksburg, TX, Eileen Schopke of Norfolk, VA, Anne Beauchamp of Woburn and the late Edward O’Malley of Chicago. Mal is also survived by special friends Vinny and Kathy Benincasa and by nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to count.
Mal’s funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester on Mon., Dec. 12 at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Sun. 2-6PM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
