Betty Tom Gibbs, 75, of Ben Hill County, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Dorminy Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, December 10, at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Brent Duncan officiating. The family will receive friends at the grave side 30 minutes prior to the service.
Born July 19, 1936 in Ben Hill County to the late Wesley and Bertha Palmer Gibbs, she was raised by Marcus and Oppie Lee Palmer Gibbs. Miss. Gibbs lived in Ben Hill County all of her life. She was a former employee of Madison Shirt Factory in Rochelle, Ben Hill County Hospital, caregiver for her elderly step-parents until their death and then worked for Hill’s Pharmacy. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by her sisters, Evelyn Mayes, Peggy (Willis) Griffin and Minnie Gibbs of Fitzgerald; nieces, Beth (Gary) Fowler of Rebecca and Laura (Billy) Trevena of Fitzgerald; nephew, John Ed Griffin of Fitzgerald; great niece, Kaylyn Fowler of Rebecca and a great nephew, John Wesley Griffin of Fitzgerald. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Johnnie Blue Gibbs and a sister, Lurene Livingston.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, c/o Willis Griffin, 1894 Lower Rebecca Rd., Fitzgerald, GA 31750.
