Walter Joseph Wojtkonski, 83, of Rochester died unexpectedly Sunday, March 14, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Josephine (Donovan) Wojtkonski.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Kraska) Wojtkunski, he lived in the city before moving to Rochester in 1955.
He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church.
Mr. Wojtkonski was employed as a construction supervisor for Olsen and Appleby and for John H. Fellouris Construction until his retirement. Over the years, he was involved in many construction projects throughout Southeastern Massachusetts.
Mr. Wojtkonski was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1305 and the Knights of Columbus. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was an avid bowler. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with others.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Joanne E. Whitehead and her husband, James, of Acushnet, Patricia J. Comeau of Fairhaven, Karen M. Poulin and her husband, Jan Marc, of New Bedford and Suzanne T. Bodick and her husband, Mark, of Carabelle, Florida.; a brother, Stanley Wojtkonski of Taunton; two sisters, Cecelia Donovan of Weymouth and Olga Hathaway of Dedham; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Bryan and James Patrick Whitehead, Nancy and David Belanger, Heather Nunes and Matthew Conlan; four great-grandchildren, Brianna Mendes, Nicole Van Wyck, and Katilyn and David Belanger; and nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Cheryl Whitehead and the brother of the late Henry Wojtkunski, Janina Rebut and Ann Favicchio.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett Wednesday March 17, 2004 at 7:45 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, Rochester at 9 AM. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday March 16, 2004 from 7-9 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.
