DALRYMPLE, A. Scott, a lifelong Winthrop resident, died Dec. 2, 2011. He was 60. Born in Winthrop, Scott was the only son of Arthur and Charlotte (Taylor) Dalrymple. He is survived by his son John Foley of Belmont, MA; sisters Peggy Walther of Windham, NH; Carol Sylla of Cambridge, MA; Joy Dalrymple of Pepperell, MA; Robin James-Teahan of Stoughton, MA; nephews Todd Walther of Ellicott City, MD and Tim Walther of Jackson Hole, WY; niece Lila-Charlotte Sylla of Buffalo, NY; nephews Jordan and Taylor Alves, nieces Rhyanna, Willow and Delaney Alves, all of Pepperell, MA; nieces Chartelle and Priscilla James of Stoughton, MA; four great nephews and six great nieces. Cousin of Nancy and John Dalrymple of Winthrop. Scott attended Philips Andover Academy and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Scott was a talented craftsman and had a career as a carpenter. Scott enjoyed traveling, which often took him to the mountains he loved for climbing and hiking. He also loved sailing and skiing. Scott's greatest passion was music. Scott began playing the guitar in his formative years and played in musical ensembles with friends through high school. While attending the University of MA, he often performed with his group at the Top of The Campus. Throughout his life, he was an avid historian of jazz. His love of music also reflected an eclectic interest for many genres that was deep and informed. Scott was also an avid reader, the topic of which often reflected his passion for understanding the profound mysteries of life. This same passion led him to the spiritual practice taught by Gurdjieff and he was a member of the Gurdjieff Group in Cambridge for close to 20 years. Scott will also be remembered for his endearing sense of humor, great conversations, his big heart, sensitive spirit and his love of nature. A Memorial Service will be held on December 20 in the First Church of Winthrop United Methodist 217 Winthrop St. Winthrop at 12pm. Relatives and friends are invited.
