Obituary


Henry F. Szaro, 87, of Westport, MA passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Somerset Ridge in Somerset, MA after an extended illness. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Sharples) Szaro and the son of the late Agnes and Andrew Cypiel.


Mr. Szaro was born and raised in Westport and he attended Westport schools. He worked for Brown and Sharpe Manufacturing Co. in N. Kingstown, RI for thirty-five years as a machinist and supervisor. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 in England and France where he saw action with the 8th Armored Division, a history of which has been chronicled in the book Tornado’s Wake by Captain Charles R. Leach. He was the recipient of the EAME Ribbon (European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign given to those who served in WWII between 1942-1946) and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the BPOE (Elks) of Fall River and Disabled American Veterans. In his spare time, Mr. Szaro enjoyed traveling, gardening, carpentry, reading, doing crossword puzzles and being everyone’s “Mr. Fix-It.”


Mr. Szaro is survived by his beloved wife Barbara of fifty years and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph, John, Frank, Annie, Helen and Julia Szaro.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
