AUGUSTA – Mr. Adam J. Story, 87, beloved husband of Ethel B. Story, entered into rest on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Georgia Health Sciences University.
Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 1:00 with the Rev. Dexter Lambert officiating.
Mr. Story was an Army veteran who served in the Philippines during World War II. He was employed by the Kroger Company, and had opened the first Kroger in the Augusta area at South Gate Plaza in 1956. He loved working in the yard and gardening, and especially loved growing beautiful tomatoes. He was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, and was fond of boxer dogs. He will be remembered as a kind man and good father who raised a good family.
In addition to his wife, Ethel, he is survived by a son, Steve Story, Mollie Story of Augusta, a daughter Burma Wilkins (husband Cole) of Maine; two grandchildren, Heather Williams (husband Laddie), and Travis Story; six great grandchildren; two nieces, Mary Martin (husband William) of Midlothan, VA and Theresa Gardiner (husband Walt) of Centerville; and one nephew, William Rhodes (wife Cathleen) of Howardville, VA. He is also survived by special friends, Opal and Beverly Belger.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, December 6, 2011 from 5:30 until 7:30 pm.
