Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Harold M. Miller, 88, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Castino) to whom he was married for 65 years. He was the son of the late William Macy and Edith (Gurney) Miller.

Harold was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army Coast Artillery. He began work at the Union Street Railway Company in 1942 as a clerk and rose to treasurer. He was later the general manager of Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Cape Cod until his retirement.

Harold was a Member/Brother of the Freemasons for over 60 years. He belonged to the Star in the East Lodge and the Abraham H. Howland Lodge. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry-Valley of Southeastern Massachusetts and the RI Masonic Veterans. In addition, he was a member of the Shrine Club of Southeastern Massachusetts, the Rhode Island Palestine Shriners, and formerly a member of the Massachusetts Aleppo Shriners with the title of Goodwill Ambassador. As a member of the Palestine Shriners, he played in the Oriental Band.

Harold was an avid golfer and card player as a member of the Hawthorne County Club where he shot two holes-in-one. For many years, he was actively involved in the HOT League.

Harold was the loving father of Emerson, of New Bedford, daughters, Janice Fernandes and her husband, Paul of Dartmouth, Marjorie Miller-Mayer and her husband, Dr. Theodore Mayer of Saint Clair Shores, MI, Reverend Patricia Miller Fernandes and her husband, Wayne of Bridgewater, and sons, Harold Jr., and his wife, Pamela Remy and Mark and his wife, Nancy of Dartmouth; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother, William of Westport.

Visitation will take place at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford on Wednesday from 3-7 P.M. A Masonic service will be conducted during the time of visitation. His service will be on Thursday at 10 A.M. at the funeral home, followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.

It is suggested remembrances be made in his name to Shriner's Hospital for Children in Boston
