Obituary

Assunta "Sue" (Carrabba) Mischitelli, 99, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 4, 2011. Her husband of 40 years, Luigi Mischitelli, died in 1974. She leaves 3 sons and 2 daughters, Vincent A. Mischitelli and his wife Shirley of FL, Michael Mischitelli and his wife Virginia of FL, Louis "Gino" Mischitelli, with whom she lived, Mary Jane Stumbras and her husband Gediminas of Worcester, and Assunta "Suzie" Tavano of Worcester; 7 grandchildren, Michael and Kenneth Mischitelli, Christine Harris, Susan Boffoli, and Gina Mischitelli, Mark Ceffalo, and Maria Blatz; 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Antoinetta and Raphaela; brothers, Frank and Marcello; and granddaughter, Michelle Ceffalo.

Assunta was born and raised in San Giovanni Rotunda, Foggia, Italy, daughter of Vincenza (Grifa) and Michele Carrabba. In 1934, Assunta immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Worcester. She was a devotee of Padre Pio having met him when he was a young monk in her hometown. He was canonized as a Saint on June 16, 2002. She had a very deep faith, and her family and God were her reason for living. She was a member of St. Christopher's Parish, the Retired Women's Club of the church and the Foggia Hall Club in Leominster. Assunta was a master tailor at the former Ulian's before she and her husband opened Luigi's Restaurant on College Hill in 1955. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and dancing but her greatest joy was spending time with her family and cooking for them.

Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Thursday, Dec. 8, from 4-8 p.m. The funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 9, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel with a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Christopher's, 950 West Boylston St., Worcester. She will be buried beside her husband following the Mass in St. Leo's Cemetery in Leominster. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950 or to UMass Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln St., Worcester MA 01605.
