Obituary

Born in Salem, MA, more recently of Malden (Granada Highlands) & West Boylston, MA; devoted husband of Marion (Doty) Boyle for 46 years and loving father to Donna Lee Glick (deceased), Kathleen Ann Stepherson & her husband Louis of Haverhill, and Alendre Laurie Brooks of North Andover; adoring grandfather of Krissandra (Papoutsis) Thompson, Kimberlee Papoutsis, Tammi (Fales) Martino, Ronald “Scott” Fales, Keith Fales, Jennifer (Phelan) Picarello, Craig Fales, Erin (Phelan) Gelinas, and Brianne Stepherson; and great-grandfather of 12; beloved brother of Marion (Boyle) Russell of Salem, Virginia (Boyle) Paul of Florida, Robert “Bobby” Boyle (deceased), and loving uncle to many nephews and nieces.

Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was especially proud to have been a member of the mounted forces of the United States Cavalry where he saw action in the terrible battle of Burma Road during WWII. He carried shrapnel in his neck and shoulder as a lifetime reminder of his military service.

In his lifetime, Bill worked for Sylvania, and Boston Woven Hose, Almy’s Department Store shipping and receiving room, where he met his wife, Marion, and he was also a successful real estate salesperson for the Pillsbury Lake and Locke Lake Colony developments in New Hampshire. In his younger days, he also put the skills learned in the Cavalry to use in riding/exercising race horses.

Afternoons and vacations would often find Bill enjoying the “Sport of Kings” at various venues from New England to Florida with his wife, Marion. They enjoyed car trips throughout the East Coast together and also resided briefly in Florida.

A devoted grandfather who truly enjoyed time with his grandchildren, he was also one of their biggest fans, and when the grandkids were young, he and Marion could be found at almost every sports/cheerleading practice or game, cheering them on.

Recently, Bill made many friends at Oakdale Nursing Home among the residents and especially the staff. They became his extended family and their relationship was one of mutual and sincere affection.

When Bill married Marion in 1965, he became instant father to 3 girls. His devotion over the years to his wife and daughters, and subsequently to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was an inspiration and a lesson in the true meaning of family. As his family mourns the loss of this great and loving man, they celebrate his life and give thanks to have been a part of it. They welcome all who knew him to share in that celebration.
