Albert E. Briand, Jr., 58, of Norton, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday December 4, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Marie J. (Miceli) Briand, to whom he was wed for 37 years.
Born in Brockton, MA on September 21, 1953, he was a devoted son of Dorothy A. (Lynch) Briand of Kingston and the late Albert E. Briand, Sr.
Al grew up and was educated in Holbrook, and was a graduate of Holbrook High School. He furthered his studies and graduated from Northeastern University, where he received his Degree in Radiology.
A retired Captain of the Norton Fire Department, Mr. Briand began his firefighting career 1n 1979 as a call firefighter. In 1987 he became a fulltime permanent Norton Firefighter. He became the departments Fire Investigator in 1999, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2000, and became a captain in 2008. Following 32 years of unselfishly serving the people of Norton, he retired on July 16, 2011. In addition to being a firefighter, he was also the former owner and operator of Al’s Landscaping in Norton
A resident of Norton for over 30 years, he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. His firefighting affiliations included being a member of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts, the International Association of Firefighters and the International Association of Arson Investigators.
Al loved the great outdoors and enjoyed times spent with family and friends in Maine. An avid hunter, he was a member of the Flagstaff Area ATV Club and the Arnold Trail Snowmobile Club, both in Maine, and was also a member of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club, and the National Rifle Association.
In addition to his beloved wife and devoted mother, he is survived by his loving children Michael A. Briand of Norton and Dawn M. Berry and her husband Matthew of Londonderry, NH. The dear brother of Annette Fuller of Duxbury, Dennis Briand of West Dennis, Pamela Pike of Marshfield and Robert Briand of Huntington, he is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held with full firefighters honors, on Thursday December 8th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St. Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday December 7th from 4-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St.(Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Al’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Steward Home Care Hospice, 30 Perwal St., Westwood, MA 02090.
