Roy E. Connor, Jr., 89

Roy E. Connor, Jr.,89, of Mansfield passed away on Saturday December 3, 2011 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Toner) Connor, to whom he was wed for 36 years at the time of her death on April 9, 1996.
Born in Somerville, MA on March 10, 1922, he was a son of the late Roy E., Sr. and Kathleen W. (Connor) Connor
Roy grew up and was educated in Arlington, and was a 1940 graduate of Arlington High School. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and on September 25, 1945 was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He later returned to school and graduated from Boston University, where he received his Degree in Journalism.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 45 years, Mr. Connor was a retired Review Examiner having been employed by the Massachusetts Division of Employment Security for over 20 years prior to retiring.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, he was also a member of the National Rifle Association. Roy’s favorite times spent were those in the presence of his loving family. His hobbies included gardening, reading, watching movies, and when younger, practicing martial arts.
He is survived by his devoted children; Martha C. Connor of Swampscott, William S. Connor of Cambridge, Maura C. Hart and her husband Charles of Watertown, and Thomas R. Connor and his wife Brandy of Mansfield. The dear brother of Russell Connor of New York City, NY, Diane Connor of Arlington and the late Robert Connor, he is also survived by is cherished grandchildren Emily Hart, Ava Connor and Dallas O’Brien, as well as several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Wednesday December 7th at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at 12:45 P.M. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday December 6th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the national cemetery, Roy’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to St. Mary’s Church Building Fund, 330 Pratt St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
