Obituary

Mark Dickson, 62, of the Bowen’s Mill Christian Community in Wilcox County, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.

Graveside services will be held at 3 P.M., Sunday, December 4, 2011 in the Sandy Ridge Cemetery, Bowen’s Mill Christian Center, with Rev. C.E. “Buddy” Cobb officiating. Memorial services will be held at 10 A.M., Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Gathering Place at Bowen’s Mill with Rev. Jimmy Fant officiating. The family invites all friends to attend both services.

Mr. Dickson was born January 21, 1949 in Mischewaka, Indiana to the late Robert F. Dickson and Jeraldine O’Dell Dickson Yagley. Following the death of his father when he was seven, Mark was raised by his mother and step-father: Colonel John A Yagley, III. Mark graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama in 1967 and attended the Polarity Health Institute in California. He had lived in the community since 1996 coming from Delta Junction, Alaska. While in Alaska, Mark was a dairy farmer and taught animal husbandry at Covenant Life College in Delta Junction, AK. Together with his wife, Mark was the owner/operator of Therapeutic Massage and Day Spa, LLC in Fitzgerald for the past 12 years. Among his many professional accomplishments are that he was: a nationally Licensed Massage Therapist, a Certified Natural Health Professional, a Loomis Digestive Specialist, and a scholar of alternative medicine. Mr. Dickson was a member of the Bowen’s Mill Christian Center and the National Rifle Association. He loved his family, he loved his work and he loved to travel.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years: Kathy Dickson of Wilcox County; children: Naomi Backes of Sharpsburg, Joshua Dickson of Sharpsburg, and Sara Dickson of Wilcox County; five grandchildren: Adriana Dickson, Aidan Dickson, Connor Backes, Noah Backes, and Lily Gatlin; siblings: Deborah & Michael Brazeau of San Jose, California, Jerry Dickson of Michigan, Roberta & Greg Newby and Beth & Ed Bish, all of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and Beverly Stewart; as well as several nieces and nephews.
