GEORGAKLIS, Arthur (Gaklis) - Of Brookline passed away suddenly and without pain or suffering last Wednesday, November 30, 2011, from general health complications. He was a devoted husband of Connie, father of Laura, Greg, Marina and Steven, grandfather of Erica, Scott, Remy and Harry and father-in-law of Guy, Eva and Jim.
Arthur lived an exemplary and admirable life filled with family, good friends and many personal and professional achievements. The people he touched throughout his rich life will miss his caring manner, his dry, gentle humor and his business knowledge. His was a life fully lived and dedicated to the highest standards. Arthur was proud of his role as family patriarch and provider, and he will be missed as a father, grandfather and mentor.
Arthur was a lifelong resident of Brookline, Massachusetts where he lived with his family for 82 years. He was a graduate of The Pennington School and Lehigh University. He was also a graduate of the Harvard Business School Executive Education program and served as an appointee of Governor Michael Dukakis to the Massachusetts Judicial Nominating Committee. Founder of Gold Star Nurseries, Gold Star Christmas Tree Export, Gold Star Sod Farms and Seasons Four Outdoor Living Store with locations in the Northeast and Canada, Arthur was a pioneer, entrepreneur, and leader in horticultural distribution and merchandising. His fine legacy over 60 years will live on through his family, friends and business associates.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 6th from 5-8 PM in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown St. WESTON. Funeral Services will be held in the church on Wednesday, December 7th at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment Walnut Hill Cemetery, Brookline. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215 in the name of Arthur Georgaklis.
