Luella Spivey, 101, died peacefully with her family by her side on December 1, 2011. She was born November 12, 1910 to Henry and Emma Bolton. Luella spent her life dedicated to her family. She grew her garden plentiful enough to feed her family all year, exercised daily, sewed most of what she wore and was a voracious reader. She never learned to drive a car, but figured she didn’t need a license since everyone else drove. As a seamstress for family and friends, these last few years have sent us searching for someone else to hem our pants for $1. Luella was fully active for 101 years and blessed to never be too sick to rise in the morning and get going.
Luella is survived by her daughter and caretaker Betty Gibson of Rockingham, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law Kim and Joe Hains of Davidson, NC, her grandson Darryl Johnson of Gainesville, Va., great grandchildren Ben and Hayden Hains of Davidson and Alexis and Zachary Johnson of Gainesville. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Phil Spivey, brothers Rufus and William Henry, sisters Iola, Rose, Nellie and Florence.
Family will be receiving visitors anytime at the home of Betty Gibson, 147 Spivey Street Rockingham.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2PM Sunday, December 4th at Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Rockingham where she was a founding member. Family will gather at the church to continue celebrating Luella after the service. Russell Marks in Rockingham is serving the family. Flowers are welcomed as Luella loved flowers. Memorial donations can also be made in her memory to Park Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1920 Park Avenue Rockingham, NC 28379.
