Jane Peterson Simmons, 71, of Lee, Florida, died Thursday, December 1, 2011, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 3, at Whitley Cemetery in Irwin County with Elders Shawn Robinson, Pat Lightcap and Frank Williamson, High Priests of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, officiating . The family and friends are asked to meet one hour before the service at the funeral home in Ocilla and then go in procession to the cemetery.
Mrs. Simmons was born August 29, 1940 in Ocilla, Georgia to the late Roger and Ruth Royal Peterson. She grew up in Irwin County, graduating from Irwin County High School in 1958 and attended Birdwood College in Thomasville. Mrs. Simmons was a former resident of Canton and Douglas, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Dixie Finance Company. She lived in Lee, Florida for the past forty years, retiring from the school system as a Para-Pro. Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Relief Society. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who had a good sense of humor and a love for animals.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Simmons of Lee, FL; sons & daughter-in-law, Keith Simmons of Lee, FL and Greg & Jennifer Simmons of Valdosta; grandchildren, Kenneth Simmons, Bowen Simmons and Abby Simmons.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to donor’s favorite charity.
