Rosby Lee Mulkey, 79, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Friday, December 2, 2011, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with The Rev. Keith Goodlett and the Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Mulkey was born November 16, 1932 in Colquitt, GA to the late Lee Preston and Chloe Sheffield Mulkey. He was a graduate of Miller High School where he played football, baseball and basketball. Mr. Mulkey attended South Georgia College where he played ball for Bobby Bowden. He later attended the University of Georgia and Austin Peay College where he also played ball. Mr. Mulkey was named a USA All American College Football Player. He was a former employee of Charles Todd Uniforms and National Linen Service in Terre Haute, IN before moving to Fitzgerald in 1975. Mr. Mulkey was former owner/operator of White Swan Laundry in Fitzgerald. He was a former resident of Albany, Ft. Oglethorpe, St. Louis, MO, Arnold, MO, Sikeston, MO, Divernon, IL and Terre Haute, IN. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era. Mr. Mulkey was an avid sports fan and attended Central United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy & Robby Fitzgerald and Mona & Hank McDaniel all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Sean Fitzgerald, Lynne & Chris Bradberry and Hannah McDaniel; great grandchild, Remington Bradberry; brothers and sister-in-law, Rev. Jimmy & Kay Mulkey of Sylvania and Lowell & Glenda Mulkey of Dexter as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Neysa Lynne Mulkey and a sister, Veda Rigsby.
