Inge M. Matzdorff, age 83, of Gales Ferry, passed away suddenly at her home of 45 years on Sunday, November 27, 2011.
Her husband Lenny predeceased her in October, 2010. They had been married for 61 years.
Inge was of German descent, born to Hildegard and Paul Waechtler on February 24, 1928 in Chemnitz, Germany. She had an older sister, Edyth who passed away.
Inge came to America as a war bride of Lenny at the young age of 20 in 1948. She was proud of her American citizenship and quickly adapted to American life raising a family of four children, 3 of whom survive her; Karen Hollingsworth and her husband James of Pawcatuck, Steven Matzdorff and his wife Machelle of Spokane, WA, and David Matzdorff of Waterford. Her daughter, Linda Marks of Waterford passed away in 2009. In Addition, Inge had 5 grandchildren; 4 of whom survive her, Jaclyn Marks of Waterford, Jordan and Jacob Matzdorff of new London, and Kyndra Matzdorff of Spokane. Joshua predeceased her in 1990.
Inge enjoyed bird watching, gardening, anything to do with flowers but mostly spending time with her family. In recent years, she and Lenny travelled to Europe, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Australia.
Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Thursday from 6-8pm. A Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard on Friday at 11am.
