Mr. William J. Corbett, age 97 of Medford died Sunday surrounded by his family at home. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth T. (Harrington) Corbett. Mr. Corbett was born and remained a lifelong resident of Medford. He is the son of the late Patrick and Katherine (Field)Corbett. He is a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1932 and also attended Burdett College. A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, he served during WWII.
He was the Director Of School Buildings and Grounds employed by The City of Medford for many years retiring in 1977. He was an active guy, a member of the Medford Elks and the American Legion in Medford. He was involved in St. Francis of Assisi parish for many years, he was a communicant, usher and a member of the Holy Name Society there. In addition to other accomplishments, he is credited with plotting the Middlesex Canal through Medford. He is survived by a daughter Elizabeth Cronin and her husband William of Rockport, and a son: William Corbett of Medford. Loving grandfather of Erin Contrino, William Cronin, Linda Norton, Elise and Amanda Corbett and SGT. Timothy Corbett U.S. Army; Great Grandfather of Aiden Cronin and Connor Contrino. Mr. Corbett is the father of the late Sr. Catherine Corbett SCH, and infant William J. Corbett Jr. Brother of the late Michael Corbett and Rita Darcy.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 thru 7pm at the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, Thursday at 10:00 am. Services will conclude with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
