Harriet L. Dumas, 76, of Derry, NH died Sunday, November 27, 2011 in the Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 11, 1935 in Worcester, MA, a daughter of the late Dwight C. and Miriam (Greene) Briggs. Mrs. Dumas was a Worcester, MA native until 1957, graduated from Tatnuck High School and later attended Clark University. She was a resident of Providence, RI, Arizona, Framingham, MA and most recently Derry, NH. She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church in East Derry, NH and was active in Se-Lo-Ki. Harriet was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Molly Reid Chapter. She worked in the Activities Department at Birchwood Nursing Home, now Aurora Senior Living. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed floral arranging, arts and crafts, decorating cakes and holiday planning.
She is survived by three sons, James H. Dumas and his wife Donna of Milford, MA, Robert C. Dumas and his wife Helene, of Brookline, MA, Andrew J. Dumas and his wife Tina of Cranston, RI; 7 grandchildren, Jeremy Currier, Eric, Elizabeth, Katherine, Andrew, Tierney, and Adam Dumas; two brothers, Dr. Harry Briggs of Connecticut and Loring Briggs of Rutland,MA one sister, Joan Gustafson of Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her husband Henry J. Dumas, Jr. in 2010 and her daughter, Joan E. Currier in 1982.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday November 30, 2011 from 4 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH. Funeral services were held on Thursday December 1st at 10am in the First Parish Church, 47 East Derry Road, East Derry, NH. The burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery, East Derry.
