WESTON: Irma Charlene (Gauntt) Lynch, 87, died peacefully on November 23, 2011 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Wilson, OK on October 11, 1924, the daughter of the late Herman Burnett Gauntt and Annie Beatrice (Lightsey) Gauntt.
Charlene was the beloved wife for 65 years of Jeremiah Lynch of Weston. Loving mother of Stephanie N. Lynch of Manchester, NH, Kevin A. Lynch and his wife Shaoyu L. Lynch of Weston and Brian T. Lynch and his wife Patricia Lynch of Brookline, NH. Sister of Hermagene Smith of Dallas, TX. Also survived by eight cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Charlene has been a resident of Weston for 49 years and previously resided in Bedford. She spent her formative years in Oklahoma and Missouri. She was a graduate of Joplin High School and met her husband Jerry during World War II at the local USO Club where she volunteered. Her family was the center of her life, and with her husband she raised their children to become accomplished professionals. She devoted her time to many volunteer projects both at church and in the community. She was an active member of the First Parish Church in Weston. She was a devoted granddaughter of John W. Gauntt, a farmer and businessman who in 1909 traded a team of mules for a fledgling 35 customer telephone company. In subsequent years, as the Chickasaw Telephone Company it has grown to become a leading telecommunication provider for Oklahoma.
Charlene and her husband enjoyed the Boston Symphony and time spent with family and friends.
Private family committal services will be held in the Memorial Garden at her church.
A Memorial Service celebrating Charlene’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the First Parish Church in Weston, 349 Boston Post Road, Weston Center.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests that gifts in her memory be sent to the Special Olympics in your local area as a special tribute to her grandson Jason.
