Maguire, Elizabeth "Betty" of Jamaica Plain died Monday at her home peacefully with family. She was the daughter of the late James & Katherine (Carroll) Maguire. Sister of the late James Maguire who was killed in the line of duty in WWII. She was a lifelong resident of Jamaica Plain. She graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and then received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emmanuel College Class of 1944 and received A Masters Degree in Social Work from Boston College, School of Social Work, Class of 1946. She continued with courses throughout her life pertaining to her profession and personal interest, some of which were at Harvard University. Her career began with 2 years of service as a social worker with Catholic Charities and then worked with the State Divisions of Child Guardianship, later known as the Division of Child and Family Services where she worked with children in foster care and their families. She rose through the ranks as Social Worker, Supervisor of Social Workers and Child Welfare Supervisor. She was responsible for over 40 social workers and supervisors in Lawrence and Boston District Offices. She retired in 1984 after serving as a champion and protector of children's rights and their families. She is survived and loved by many family members and friends. Funeral from the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home 10 Tower St. (Opp. Forest Hills MBTA Station) JAMAICA PLAIN on Friday December 2 at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
