George H. Mort, 89, of Plainville, formerly of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday November 25, 2011 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of June P. (McGrath) Mort, to whom he was married for the past 62 years.
Born in Boston, MA on June 1, 1922, he was a loving son of the late Charlotte (Quinn) Anderson. He grew up in the Dorchester section of Boston and was educated in Boston public schools.
During WWII, George faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Navy, and on November 7, 1947 was honorably discharged with the rank of Sonarman.
A resident of Plainville for the past 23 years, he had formerly made his home in Mansfield for 35 years. Mr. Mort was a retired supervisor, having worked for 27 years at the Foxboro Co. prior to retiring in 1984.
George was an active member at the Plainville Senior Center. He was a member of the Foxboro Co. 25 year club and enjoyed camping, singing, and bowling. His favorite times spent were those in the presence of his adoring family and amongst friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted daughter Donna J. Bouchard of Lakeville and was the father of the late David L. Mort. He is also survived by his cherished 7 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday November 29th at 11:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:30 P.M. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday November 28th from 4-7 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, George’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Friends of the Plainville Senior Center, 9 School St. Plainville, MA 02762.
