Barbara Franks Chambless of Covington, formerly of Tifton, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, at Newton Medical Center in Covington. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Glenn Ford and Rev. Robert McCoy, Jr. will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Ches Chambless, Matt Chambless, Cruz Chambless, Wade Boutwell, Travis Sutton and Gene Sutton will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Chambless was born on May 10, 1943 in Marion County, Alabama and was the daughter of Arlin Jackson Franks and Dealie Elizabeth Pope Franks, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. L. J. Chambless, who died in 1998; two brothers, Earl Ray Franks and Roland Gray Franks; a sister, Shelby Jean Hill; and a step-daughter, Joan Chambless Wilson. She was retired as a payroll/overseas invoicing clerk with Burlen Corporation. She was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Covington, where she enjoyed helping with the food pantry and health clinic.
Mrs. Chambless is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tracy L. and Karen Britt McCurdy; her son Stacy L. McCurdy and Partner, Adam Schmidt; her grandchildren, Kayla McCurdy McDaniel and husband Chad McDaniel and Meagan McCurdy; nieces, Lisa Hill Blanchard and husband Tim, Melinda Hill McCoy and husband,. Rev. Robert McCoy, Jr.; great-nieces, Heather Spradlin Tillman and husband, John, Katlyn Spradlin Hayes and husband, Chris, Shelby McCoy, Mary-Grace McCoy, Robert “Trey” McCoy, III; step-children, Patsy Chambless Walker and husband Wayne and Leonard J. Chambles and wife Brenda; eight step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
