Obituary

Hanson - Alex M. “Big Al” Galambos, 82, of Hanson, a former trustee of the First Congregational Church of Hanson, died peacefully Wednesday November 24th at the Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

A long-time member of the First Congregational Church, he also served as an usher and helped in the kitchen of the church fair for many years. Known for his generosity, he was a long-time supporter of community theater productions at Camp Kiwanee.

Mr. Galambos was a former purchasing agent for Fiduciary Trust in Boston. He worked for the company for 32 years before retiring in 1994.

Born in Phoenixville, Pa., Mr. Galambos was the son of Hungarian immigrants, Stephen and Juliana (Toth) Galambos. One of 12 children, he was the last surviving sibling.

He attended Phoenixville High School and graduated from Shenandoah Valley Academy in Virginia. He later attended La Sierra College in California.

He moved to Massachusetts in 1963 when he married his wife, Carolyn (Baker) Galambos. They lived in Abington before moving to Hanson in 1969.

At one time Mr. Galambos worked three jobs to support his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Ellen Galambos of Duxbury and Alexandra “Andi” Galambos of Abington; two granddaughters, Juliana and Celia Borghesani of Duxbury; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday November 27th in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. Whitman, MA. (RT 58 @ the Rotary Circle) from 1:00- 5:00PM. His memorial service will be held on Monday November 28th at 10:00AM in the Hanson Congregational Church, 639 High St, Hanson, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Friends of Camp Kiwanee, 81 Perry Ave., Hanson, MA. 02341
