Evans, GA – Miss Marian Burke Gelzer, 94, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Trinity Hospital.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Westover Memorial Park with the Fr. Mike Ingram officiating.
Miss Gelzer, a native of St Louis, Missouri, had lived in Augusta since 1960. She had been employed as a clinical social worker at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Lenwood Division and at the Georgia Regional Hospital from where she retired in 1983, as Director of the Social Work Department.
She completed her undergraduate training at St. Louis University, St Louis, Missouri and received her Master of Social Work degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of the Georgia Chapter of the National Association of Social Work, as well as a member of St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sister, Ann Gelzer Black of Easley, S.C., a cousin, James F. Lovett of Raleigh, as well as numerous other cousins. She is also survived by a long time family friend, Rita Eckert of Augusta.
