Mary D. (Andrews) Silva, 94, of New Bedford died suddenly on Tuesday November 22, 2011 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Henry Silva.
Born in Plymouth, the daughter of the late Fortunato and Marion (Gonsalves) Andrews, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mrs. Silva was formerly employed as a packer at Elco Dress Company until her retirement.
She was the matriarch of her large family, who arranged family functions and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include four children, Betty Rose, Sandra Ford and her husband Calvin, Lorraine Pina, and Anthony Texeira, Jr., all of New Bedford; two sisters, Jennie Fernandes of New Bedford and Rose Cardoza of Arizona; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Priscilla and Barbara Texeira, grandmother of the late Joseph F. Canto, and sister of the late John Andrews, Henry Andrade, Sylvester Andrade, Antone Andrade, Louis Andrade and Frank Andrade.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
