Mona T. Roberts, 89, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at the Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 12, 2004, at Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald, Georgia with Rev. Steve Waldorf officiating. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Roberts was born October 12, 1914 in Adel, Georgia to the late Mose and Amy Catherine “Kate” Lynn Thornton. She moved to Fitzgerald in 1936 from Adel. Mrs. Roberts was a former Certified Nurses Assistant at Ben Hill County Hospital, Dorminy Medical Center and The Harris House. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Upper Room Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Roberts made dolls that she donated to the Pink Ladies at Dorminy Medical Center and to less fortunate children.
Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-law: John D. (Annette) Roberts, Jr., W.M. “Bill” Roberts, Tommy L. (Sharon) Roberts and Jimmy L. (Debbie) Roberts, all of Fitzgerald; daughters and sons-in-law: Joan (Wayne) Register, O’Brien, FL and Kathryn E. (David) Skuza, Jonesboro, GA; brothers: Gaston Thornton, Douglas, GA and Archie Thornton, Miami, FL; sister: Margaret Sikes, Tifton, GA; twenty two grandchildren, thirty seven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, John David Roberts, Sr., two brothers, J.W. and Jimmy Thornton, sister, Mary Whiddon and grandson, William Darren Roberts.
