Arthur A. Godfrey, 69

Dateline: Attleboro, MA

Arthur A. Godfrey, 69, of Attleboro, formerly of Norton passed away on Friday November 18, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the former husband and best friend of Marcia L. (Dion) Godfrey of Norton.
Born in Attleboro, MA on September 16, 1942, he was a son of the late Arthur and Maria M. (Caron) Godfrey.
Arthur grew up and was educated in Attleboro. He attended Stonehill College and later graduated from Bristol Community College.
A resident of Attleboro for over 20 years, he faithfully served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on March 22, 1966 with the rank of SP4 (T) E-4.
A retired postal clerk, Mr. Godfrey had worked at the Chartley Post Office in Norton for 10 years before retiring. He had formerly worked as a radio announcer and program director at the former Radio Station WHIM in Providence, and was also the former owner of For the Health of It, Natural Food Store in Norton.
Along with his family, Arthur had formerly attended St. Mary’s Church in Norton. He enjoyed Dee Jaying at local functions and when younger had a love for farming and gardening.
In addition to his former wife, he is survived by his devoted sons David G. Godfrey and his wife Lisa of Norton and Sean A. Godfrey and his fiancé Jennifer of Minnesota. The dear brother of Norman W. Godfrey and his wife Cheryl of Tennessee and Roger E. Godfrey and his wife Phyllis of Attleboro, he is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Joshua, Lily and Erin, his best friend Michael brewer of Attleboro, as well as several nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday November 29th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
Visiting hours are omitted and arrangements are under the care and direction of the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St., Norton.
