Lonnie Metts, 92, of Alapaha, Georgia, died Friday, November 18, 2011, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 21, at Bethel Baptist Church in Ocilla with the Rev. Tracy Clements and the Rev. Pete Jones officiating. Great Grandson, Grant Metts will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Brogdon Cemetery at New Griffin Church in Alapaha. Visitation will be held from 7-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Metts was born September 14, 1919 in Alapaha to the late Mose and Mary Jane Harper Metts. He farmed and lived in Alapaha all of his life. Mr. Metts was a caring and giving man who helped with a lot of different organizations in the community. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ocilla.
Mr. Metts is survived by his wife, Lucille M. Metts of Alapaha; sons, Bobby (Melba) Metts of Enigma and Ernest (Sandra) Metts of Ringgold; stepchildren, Jim (Donna) Mullis of Kansas City, Missouri and Loretta (Stan) Alligood of Sylvester; grandchildren, Terri (Kasey) Hendrix, Mark Metts, Shelly (Brook) Kennon, Melissa (D.R.) Medley, Chad Alligood, Becky (Chad) Waltman, Ashley Summers, Angela Summers Burke and Sean Summers; great grandchildren, Amanda Willis, Austin Willis, Grant Metts, Brooks Hendrix, Josh Hendrix, Jesse Kennon, Bailey Kennon and Cammi Waltman. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene Joiner Metts, 1 sister and 5 brothers.
