James M. “Marcy” Stone, Sr., 63, of Abbeville, Georgia, died Friday, November 18, 2011, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, November 21, at Cannonville Baptist Church in Abbeville with the Rev. Tommy Day Wilson and the Rev. James Faircloth officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Stone was born July 9, 1948 in Hawkinsville to the late David Jackson and Martha Etta Teal Stone. He lived in Abbeville most of his life, graduating from Wilcox County High School in 1967. He served as a Wilcox County Commissioner from 1987-2008 and was an honorary Deputy Sheriff. After graduating from high school, he moved to Atlanta, where he worked for Owens-Illinois. He was a former employee of Robins Air Force Base. Mr. Stone also farmed and owned/operated Georgia Coastal Construction Company. He was a member and Deacon of Cannonville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sons, Jamie Stone of Abbeville and Joey Stone of Fitzgerald; grandson, Kayne Stone of Fitzgerald; sisters, Nancy (Dwight) Harman of Kingston, TN, Kay Stone of Austell and Jennifer (Danny) Sharpe of Bluff City, TN; brother, David J. (Pat) Stone, Jr. of Smyrna as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emily Price and infant twin sisters.
