Hartford, CT--Valio O. Perttula, 78, formerly of Worcester, a WWII veteran died March 4, 2004, in the Wintonbury Care Center, Bloomfield, CT. His brother Rauni, with whom he once resided, predeceased him. He leaves a nephew, Reino Panula of Finland.
He was born in Maynard, MA, son of Samuel and Aili Perttula. He graduated from North High School in Worcester. He was a Marine Corps veteran serving in the Pacific including the occupation of Japan.
Mr. Perttula worked at Pratt & Whitney Co. in the engineering department for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Hartford Lafayette Lodge of Masons. He excelled in athletics, participating in several field and track events. He was an accomplished musician playing the guitar, and attended The Schillinger School of Music in Boston. He enjoyed traveling, and made several trips to Finland.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 8th in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester, MA. There are no callingng hours.
