Martha A. (Shaw) Munies, age 91, of Brockton died November 16, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Philip Munies. Born in Canton, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Mildred (Dunn) Shaw. She attended Middleboro High School, University of Vermont and Northeastern University and continued her education in Business Administration at Babson College. She was a licensed nurse for 14 years, then became the owner and administrator of the Quincy Adams Nursing Home until she retired in 1986 to Florida for 21 years. She returned to Massachusetts and lived with her daughter in Abington. She was a fellow in the College of Hospitals and Nursing Home Administrators, former member of the Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants, National Democratic Committee, Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick, and the Leadership Circle to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
She is survived by her sons John and his wife Nancy of West Yarmouth, James and his wife Sandra of East Bridgewater and Russell and his wife Jennifer of Middleboro. She also leaves ten grandchildren, ten great grand children, four great great grandchildren, and two nieces Beverly Dietlin and Joan Heath. She was the mother of the late Nancy Whitley and mother in law of the late Paul Whitley.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday 2-6pm. The funeral procession will form at the funeral home Monday at 8am for a funeral mass in St. Edith Stein Parish at 9am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
