Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Sullivan) Beland, 81, of North Andover, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 at her home.

She was born on February 18th, 1930 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late Frank and Lena (Tapley) Sullivan. Betty was educated in the local schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. She later graduated from Berdette School of Business in Boston, MA.

Betty worked as a Trust Officer at Arlington Trust Company (1948 - 1976) in Lawrence, MA. She then spent 26 years, (1976-2002) as a philanthropist and administrator for the Stevens Foundations in North Andover, Massachusetts.

In Betty's lifetime she received many awards: In 1990 Lawrence Exchange Club Book of Golden Deeds Award, 1991 Immigrant City Archives Award from Int'l Institute, 1991 Eagle Tribune Woman of the Year Award, 1992 Lawrence Youth Commission Award, 1992 Point After Club Award, 1993 Yankee Clipper Council, Boy Scout Award, 1995 Merrimack College ABA Hall of Fame, 1998 Merr.Valley Comm. Found. Distinguished Svc. Award, 1999 Hibernian's "John E. Fenton Citizenship Award", 2000 Amer. Red Cross McCallum Humanitarian Award, and the 2000 Lawrence Bar Assoc. Liberty Bell Award.

According to her family, Betty was a Huge Red Sox fan, she enjoyed traveling and most of all she loved spending time with her family. Betty was very competitive, especially in Scrabble.

Her celebration of life mass will take place on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Michaels Church in North Andover, MA.
