Jean M. Hollis, age 76 and a resident of Wilmington for nearly 40 years, passed away surrounded by her family on November 14th, 2011 at Compass Memory Support Assisted Living facility in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Born in New Rochelle, New York, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Ferdinand Tuoti and Helen Tuoti. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley J. Hollis and is survived by her son Timothy Hollis, currently living in Munich, Germany, and her dear stepchildren Robert Hollis of Hampton, New Hampshire; Richard Hollis of Hampton, New Hampshire; Sandra Horan of Stratham, New Hampshire; and Deborah Maloy of Wakefield, Massachusetts, along with each of their wonderful families, including her nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Growing up in New Rochelle, Jean played in the school band, enjoyed horseback riding and spent summers with her family at Lake Damariscotta in Maine. She was a graduate of Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and the Columbia University - Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. She followed a nursing career in Pediatric and Geriatric medicine and veteran care. In later years, Jean was blessed to be able to spend time working with children in day care.
Jean’s many interests included working in her garden, going for long walks in nature, cooking for friends and family, observing night skies both from her back yard and at public viewing nights at the Merrimack College observatory, and being involved with HAM radio activities. She was also active with the local chapter of The League of Women Voters.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held for friends and family at the Dello Russo - Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 374 Main Street, Wilmington, on Saturday, November 19th from 12 to 2 pm.
It is requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Wilmington Senior Citizens Center, 15 School Street, Wilmington, MA 01887.
